My First and Still Favorite Winery: Sokol Blosser

Evolution white blend wine made by Sokol Blosser Winery was my first favorite wine. Over the course of the past decade it has become a favorite of each and every one of my best friends, we have endless memories accompanied by this wine…  weddings, summers on the deck overlooking the river in Montana, sitting beachside on the Outer Banks in North Carolina, in our S’well bottles river rafting down the Blackfoot or Clark Fork, at the Ranch Club watching our Littles play in the pool, golf, grow into from our babies into little people…all the while Sokol Blosser’s Evolution white has been by our side!

This is a winery that I had wanted to team up with from the beginning. I’m such a huge fan. I have never tasted a wine that was more all around satisfying than their Evolution.  When I was told that they were releasing an incredible 2014 sparkling rosè of pinot noir just in time for the holidays,  I was over the moon excited to get my hands on it.  Let me tell you, if you love sparkling rosè you need to try this. I’d be willing to say it’s easily comparable to Veuve rosè, even as much as the Perrier Jouèt rosè. Truly remarkable.

Now let me tell you a bit about this incredible 47+ year old, family ran and owned vineyard and winery. Bill Blosser and Susan Sokol Blosser planted their first vines in 1971, they needed all of their youthful self-confidence, energy and determination to make their way because there was no wine industry in Oregon, they were the FIRST to establish vineyards and a winery in the Willamette Valley. Today they own 128 organic acres of vineyards.

Today, with over 500 wineries and more than 19,000 acres of vineyards, Oregon wines are available throughout the world. Sokol Blosser has survived, grown and prospered as a family-owned and run operation. It is enviable that they had been part of developing and shaping Oregon’s now prominent wine industry.

From the start, the Sokol Blossers were aware of the impact that farming and wine production would have on the environment. Before it was popular, the winery did everything it could to give back to the land. Today, the second generation winegrowers of Sokol Blosser continue this ‘good to the earth’ policy through certified-organic farming, sustainable business practices and low impact packaging. In fact, in 2002 Sokol Blosser became the first US winery to receive LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certification. In April 2015, the company went through the rigorous process to become a Certified B Corporation. Which means they pursue sustainable practices in all phases of their business, as their B Corp Certification supports. This commitment to the earth, people and business will continue as long as the winery is in operation. I fall more in love with Sokol Blosser the more I learn about it. It’s truly my absolute fave.
