Make the Switch to Clean Beauty TODAY!

As American consumers, we are bombarded with thousands of skin care and cosmetic brands. Whether sold at drug stores, grocery store aisles or department stores, they are there claiming to be “natural” and contain plant ingredients which leads us to believe they are perhaps organic and/or safe. The real truth is that there is almost zero regulation in the beauty industry today. In fact, the last time Congress passed a law regulating the beauty industry was in 1938.

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) is the source to use to find out what is in your possibly years long favorite cleansing routine or shampoo. Odds are that what you’re using contains a carcinogen, can cause developmental issues in children, could cause sterility in men or have other devastating side effects. You can download an incredibly useful EWG Skin Deep app onto your phone, and I challenge you to go through your family’s toiletries using the EWG app. You will be shocked! Please take a moment to watch this two minute film. So much excellent information.

Let’s take one of your fave brands which has for a long time been your go to for clean skin care and makeup. The EWG app, which you can download on any droid or IOS mobile, rates products on a scale from 1 to 10, 1 being the most safe, 10 being the most toxic. Put that product into the app and see where it scores.

Who would have thought that my mother’s fave shampoo was toxic? Many popular brands that pride themselves on being “organic” or “natural” are rated 4 or higher by the EWG and have allergy, cancer and developmental concerns.

By using products that contain such ingredients as parabens, phthalates, polyethylene glycol, oxybenzone, formaldehyde, among several other toxins, you are exposing yourself and your family to very harmful toxins and carcinogens. It’s our responsibility to make safer choices for our loved ones and educate people about the safety of their products.

At my most recent visit to The Spa at Four Seasons Hotel Denver I was SO pleased to see all of the clean, often organic local brands that they carried such as Herbal Heart Apothecary (H2A) of Loveland, CO,  ISUN from Telluride and Zents from Boulder! Another amazing local clean makeup brand is Alchemy Mineral Blends.

One company that I love, a relatively new skin care start up based in Santa Monica, CA, is Beautycounter. This company is committed to producing the safest skin care and makeup in the country and thus far it is succeeding. The EWG has rated all of their produced as EWG certified meaning that all their wares rate mostly at 1, a handful rate 2. Not only are them SAFE, but the area also EFFECTIVE!

I’ve used all of their products. My favorites are their oils and cleansing balm. I love all of the makeup that I have purchased. I love using their children and baby products as well. Most of all, I love using Beautycounter because I don’t have to worry about the toxicity of what I’m putting on the largest organ on my body – my skin. Shop here.

Love this post! I made the switch to clean beauty years ago and haven’t looked back. I’m definitely going to download that app.
